Welcome to two open lectures on the occasion Teppo Kalevi Kröger and Yueh-Ching Chou visit to HVL this week.

  • 09.00-10.00: Professor Yueh-Ching Chou: Oldest-old widows living with ageing offspring with intellectual disabilities in Taiwan.
  • 10.15-11.15: Professor II at HVL Teppo Kröger: Recent trends and developments in long-term care in Finland: Implications for care poverty.
  • 11.15-11.45: Further discussions and ideas.

Teppo Kröger is Professor II at the Centre for Care Research at HVL. He holds a primary appointment in the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Having a background in social policy and social work research, he is a care policy researcher with expertise especially in long-term care for older people, unmet needs/care poverty, integration of formal and informal care, work-care reconciliation and working conditions of care workers.

He is also leading the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare), which is the first-ever CoE focusing on research on older people, funded by the Academy of Finland. Recently Teppo participated in the Scientific Panel on Population Policy, appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office (of Finland), and that experience led him to write this blog post. For more information, please see here

Yueh-Ching Chou is a professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
She has a PhD in Social Work from the University of Minnesota in the US.

Her main research interests focus on supporting individuals with an intellectual disability (ID) living in the community including their carers/parents and reconciliation between paid work and unpaid caring among mothers of children with ID. Her research work has been linked with her involvement in the disability movement and in close co-operation with organisations of parents and practitioners.
