Field of work
Czarecah Oropilla (Eya) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, where she is part of the KINDknow Centre (Kindergarten Knowledge Centre for Systemic Research on Diversity and Sustainable Futures) and where she also obtained her Philosophiae Doctor. Her PhD research project is an exploration of intergenerational engagements and programmes between young children and older adults in the field of early childhood education and care settings, including kindergartens and family and community settings.
Eya is currently co-leader of EX-PED-LAB. She works on projects concerning pedagogical innovations and co-creations. She has launched a new podcast through HVL and EX-PED-LAB called "PedPod by EX-PED-LAB" where she talks to early childhood researchers about pedagogical innovations.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Child Development from the University of the Philippines where she graduated cumlaude. She was awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship for an International Masters in Early Childhood Education and Care, a joint programme of Oslo and Akershus University College (now Oslo Metropolitan University), University of Gothenburg, Dublin Institute of Technology (now Technical University Dublin), and University of Malta.
Apart from training in research and education in European countries, Eya has taught in the bachelor's program in the University of the Philippines. She was also a kindergarten teacher in the UP Child Development Center. She also managed the operations of KidZania, an international role-playing facility for children and their families in Manila.
