# FE404 Mathematics for Renewable Energy

## Course description for academic year 2022/2023

### Contents and structure

FE404 is the second of two courses in mathematics for the bachelor program in Renewable Energy. Together, the two courses provide the mathematical background needed for the technological courses in the program. FE404 gives an deeper understanding of differentiation and integration, as well as an introduction to differential equations and linear algebra.

### Learning Outcome

The course provides further knowledge about how mathematics is used to handle problems within renewable energy.

**Knowledge**

The student has

- knowledge of differentiation and integration
- knowledge of differential equations and how they describe change
- knowledge of linear algebra and matrices

**Skills**

The student can

- use trigonometry and vector calculations to evaluate relevant natural resources such as solar radiation and wind conditions
- use derivation to investigate how different systems change
- recognize and analyse differential equations
- form and solve systems of linear equations

**Competence**

The student

- can analyse and evaluate mathematical models within renewable energy
- collect and evaluate relevant data sets

### Compulsory learning activities

One (1) written assignment. The assignment must be approved (passed) before one may take the exam.

### Assessment

Written school exam, 4 hours.

Grading scale A-F, where F represents a fail.
