NABP2004 Vessel management - ship construction
Course description for academic year 2023/2024
Contents and structure
Introduction to ship construction, choice of construction materials, shear forces and bending moments, hull construction, stresses on the hull beam, and calculation and assignment of freeboard. Introduction to the various choices the ship owner and naval architect may be faced with in the design process and how these choices influence the finished ship.

Skills
The Studen is able to:
- Describe the various components of a ship
- Explain how the various components of the ship influence on the ship designand is able to perform calculations which showes how the ship design can be altered by using different parameters in the design process.
- By applying the aquired knowledge, perform calculation calculations which demonstrates how the naval architect has designed the ship
- Perform research into various types of ship design
- Enter into a discussion regarding ship design
- Participate in a creative process regarding ship construction
General Qualifications:
The student:
- Has theoretical competence required for the subject as per STCW 78 as Amended, tables A-II/1 and A-II/2.
- Has insight into relevant academic and professional issues.
- Can exchange opinions and experiences with others with a background in the field, thereby contributing to the development of good practice

Individual digital Home exam, 4 hours.
