PDR100 Process Drama - a preliminary course

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

This module is offered to students in a three month exchange program. It is a preparatory course for the module DRA304 Theatre history and Theatre production (15 ECTS) og DRA308 TIE/Applied Theatre (20 ECTS). Focus is on explorative work through process drama and relevant theories.

The module introduces practical work and theory of process drama. Drama methods and conventions are central. Focus is on the leader/facilitator as a planner, organiser, coach and collaborator.

Learning Outcome

When the course is completed, the student should have the following overall learning outcomes:

  • has obtained knowledge of theories of process drama
  • has obtained knowledge of relevant drama didactics


The student

  • can make use of a variety of drama educational methods and conventions

General knowledge

The student

  • has obtained general knowledge in facilitatation of a process drama with children and adolescents

Entry requirements


Recommended previous knowledge

An interest in interactive learning processes is recommended.

Teaching methods

Process drama, lectures, workshops/student-led teaching, a written assignment: Reflection on a chosen process drama structure.

Compulsory learning activities

The following mandatory learning activities must be approved by the course instructor before the student can present themselves for examination:

  • It is expected that every student attends all practical lessons ( i. e. workshops, group work) sharing the responsibility for carrying out learning activities to be able to prepare for the exam.
  • A written assignment: Reflection on a chosen process drama structure. 1500 words.

If a mandatory learning activity is assessed as not approved, written feedback shall be provided on this matter. Students who do not have one or more learning activities approved are offered the opportunity to correct errors and deficiencies (once) during the semester. Mandatory learning activities must be approved no later than three weeks before the examination.


Practical group exam at the end of the course:

Lead/facilitate a given process drama.

Postponed/new exams will be carried out individually.

Grading scale: Pass/Fail.
