NAB1001 Physics

Course description for academic year 2020/2021

Contents and structure

Newton's laws in two dimensions, energy, impulse and movment. Circular movement with inertia and spinn. Calculations of force and gravitation. Pressure and flotation. Equation of state, pVT-diagrams, length and volume expansion. Waves and fluctuations.

Learning Outcome

-Knowledge:

  • The student knows the equations of motion, Newton's laws, rectilinear and curvature movement in several dimensions.

The student can describe:

  • Conditions for equilibrium in the subject statics.
  • Gas laws.
  • Bernouilli's equation with and without loss.
  • Acoustic and electromagnetic waves.
  • Geometrical optics.
  • Satellite movement.
  • The law of gravitation.

- Skills:

The student is able to calculate:

  • Distance, speed and acceleration.
  • Forces, pressure and momentums.
  • Pressure, volume, mass and temperature, by use of the gas laws.
  • Fluid velocity, pressure and height by use of Bernouilli's equation.
  • Speed, frequency and wavelength for acoustic and electromagnetic waves.
  • Reflection and refraction angles.
  • Satellite movement.

- General Qualifications:

The student is able to use the knowledge of physics:

  • As a tool in their coming studies and later in their occupation.
  • To improve safety onboard.
  • When working with their bachelor assignment.

  • 3 written assignments. All three must be approved in order to take the final exam.
