Project summary

EduMedLab contains research and innovation activities within the following thematic priority areas (A) Learning processes, assessment forms and learning outcomes; (B) Practice, professional practice and competence-development; and (D) Education, society and working life. EduMedLab intends to (i) promote scientific renewal in the field of educational research, (ii) stimulate innovation in the educational sector, and (iii) develop knowledge of high quality and relevance for the health care biomedical laboratory scientists (BLS) education program, important for the field of practice (working life) and the public. The ability to adjust and stay updated is increasingly important as health care professionals face rapid changes in laboratory diagnostics methodology, treatment and care options, and as demographic changes shift disease patterns. BLS profession has developed dramatically the last years and accordingly, there is a need for transformation of the education of BLS to meet the challenges of the future. The main objective of this study is to uncover and explore the signature pedagogy of biomedical laboratory scientist’ study programs (national and international perspectives), looking for academic and clinical elements of excellence and innovation (educational innovation and ICT innovation). The EduMedLab project aims to increase coherence between the educational learning environment at the university/university college and the clinical practice training at the clinical health institutions, to ensure that graduates have the competencies needed to serve the challenges they meet in the healthcare profession. Quality improvement and exploring innovative educational solutions are the interlocking aims of EduMedLab.
