Green Guide

The intent with the green guide is to help all international students choose the greenest alternative possible when it comes to living as an exchange student in Norway. This guide will help you find secondhand clothing, equipment to rent or borrow, collective transport, how to travel around in Norway and how to make green choices.

Here is a mini local green guide with specific tips and information to each campus. Other options do exist, but here are some suggestions.

Green guide Bergen

Secondhand clothes and other items

  • NMS Gjenbruk Bergen - Clothes, interior and other items
  • UFF - Clothes and accessories
  • Gjenbruken Bergen - Clothes, interior and other items
  • Bytte Bua (@byttebuabergen) – Here you can place items you do not need anyemore, and find items you do need (mostly interior and kitchen utensils)
  • Gjenbruksfestivalen – A thrift festival arranged by SAMMEN in August each year, here you can find FREE clothes, furniture, utensils and interior. Look for infmation on Sammen
  • Det Gule Hus - Clothes (sell or buy) 

Equipment to borrow or rent

  • BUA – Borrow outdoor and activity equipment (skis, snowboards, sleeping bags, shoes, etc)
  • Library – Borrow books and other items. You can use the library at campus or the local libary
  • Læringslab - At campus and you can borrow all kinds of technological equipment (VR, PCs, iPads, cameras)

Transportation

  • Rent a city bike through the app Bergen Bysykkel

  • OMATTE – Clothes and accessories 
  • NMS Reuse – Mostly kitchen equipment, furniture, clothes
  • Gjenbruksbui – Located at Elvatunet 1 (Saman), lots of free stuff

Pop-up Events

  • Pop-up Events are common in Sogndal, either on campus or other available places. But you need to stay updated!
  • Usually at "Meieriet" organized by various associations (often those related to outdoor activities, sports, etc.), follow their Instagram accounts:Yggdrasil @instaygga, Luftlaget @luftlauget, Sjøspretten @sjospretten, Lurkarlaget @lurkarlaget, etc.

Equipment to borrow or rent

  • Borrow equipment as a member of Lurkarlaget, Trivselssentralen or other student assosciations at campus.
  • Sognabui Equipment Center by the Sogndal Frivilligsentral - Skiing, snowboarding, skates, shoes, general outdoor gear, bikes
  • Bergofjell and Skisenter Hodlekva - Various equipment for rent for a fee
  • DNT - Kayak and canoe rentals for a fee 
  • In the cafeteria at campus, you have access to many board games/card games/chess
  • Library - Borrow books and other items. You can use the library at campus or the local one
  • Læringslab - Located on campus and you can borrow all kinds of technological equipment (VR, PCs, iPads, cameras)
