Field of work
I am currently working on a project about indices in mathematics education. The project is positioned in a Critical mathematics education perspective and seeks to explore the potential that prescriptive modelling, such as the Body Mass Index (BMI) or Human Development Index (HDI), has in developing awareness about the formatting power that mathematics has in our society. The project is now expanded to an international cooperation between HVL and the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. I lead a group of 4 colleagues from HVL in cooperation with professor Cyril Julie (UWC) who leads the South African Group. The project is from January 2018 financed by UTFORSK (SIU-center for international cooperation in education). We will together with the South african colleagues design lessons With indices to be used in our institutions, Research and publish together. Data are collected at HVL With master students, and also at University of Shkodra, Albania, with master students, in addition to 4th year bachelor students from UWC.
I am working with the research project "Developing teachers of mathematical argumentation in a critical mathematics education perspective" financed by NFR, together With my colleagues from the mathematics Department, since November 2018.
In addition, another Research project I am working With, and which has also got financed by NFR, is the interdisciplinary innovation project "Allmenndannende realfag gjennom utforsking med ekte og nære tall", a project about mathematics and science education with real numbers, in Collaboration With colleagues from HVL, UiB and Bergen Kommune.
I am the leader of the Research Group LiDRIC since November 2018. There we collaborate with Rafto Foundation for a course in argumentation, in Norwegian and Mathematics, related to controversial topics in upper and lower secondary school.
I have experience in teaching mathematics education in teacher education both in Albania and Norway, in supervision of master students in mathematics education, and evaluating several master theses in Norway. In addition, I am responsible for the PhD 908 course in Critical mathematics education in spring 2019.
