University West

University West is located in the heart of Trollhättan, near the west coast of southern Sweden. The university receives approximately 200 exchange students each year. Its modern, open campus encourages interaction between students, lecturers and workplaces. University West has been recognised as Sweden’s leading university in the practice of work-integrated learning. This combination of academic knowledge and practical work experience is unique in Trollhättan. University West has about 13,600 students and offers courses in the fields of computer science and IT, economics and management, health sciences, and several other areas.

The university has a spacious natural landscape just minutes from campus. Sweden’s largest lake, Vänern, spectacular waterfalls, and walks along the canal are all popular attractions. At Trollhättan, you can visit the SAAB Automobile museum, or explore the growing Swedish film industry in the area, popularly known as ‘Trollywood’. Just a half hour away by train is Gothenburg, where many students choose to visit trendy coffee bars or the Liseberg Amusement Park.

Course approval

In order to apply for a student exchange programme, your application must first be approved by the study programme of your faculty. An approved application means that you have been given an academic pre-approval for the course or traineeship you will be doing abroad. The academic pre-approval specifies what you will be doing while you are on an exchange programme and confirms these activities will be fully approved as part of your education plan at HVL.
