IAM
IAM (Identity and Access Management) is a shared solution for identity and access management within the university and college sector in Norway. The solution ensures that students, employees, and guests at HVL are granted access to the digital services they need—at the right time and with the correct level of access.
User accounts are created automatically based on data from the personnel system and the student system. If you need extended access, you can submit a request through the IAM portal.
Student
When you are registered in the Common Student System (FS), a user account will automatically be created for you. You will receive an email when your account is ready for activation.

Extend Student Account
You will receive an email notification 30 days before your student account is scheduled to be deactivated. If you wish to extend your access:
- Log in to the IAM portal
- Select “Catalog” in the menu
- Check “Extend Student Account” and click “Request”
Your account access will automatically be extended by 180 days from the date of approval. No further notification will be sent, and it is not possible to request another extension after this period.
Employees
When your employment is registered in the personnel system (SAP), a user account will automatically be created. You will receive an email when your account is ready for use.

Requesting Extended Access
You can request access to systems like Canvas, FS, WISEflow, or administrative tools:
- Log in to the IAM portal
- Go to “Catalog”
- Select the system you need access to and click “Request”
- In the right-hand window, you can choose the duration and optionally write a justification
- Click “Request” again to submit
The request will be sent to your manager for approval.
PhD Candidates and Research Fellows
Your user account is managed based on your affiliation with HVL. You may have one or more roles:
- Employee (registered in SAP): Access is granted until the end of your last working day + 1 day
- Student (with active study rights in FS): Access is maintained for as long as the study rights are active + 180 days
Managers
As a manager, you can:
- Approve requests for extended access from employees
- Submit access requests on behalf of your staff
