Project summary
Background: The Babies Born Better (B3) project has so far investigated women’s experiences of care during childbirth. These studies showed that the partners’ presence and support were crucial to the women, and acknowledging and caring for the partners’ needs was essential for the well-being of the entire family. Co-parents have several roles during childbirth. They are waiting to meet their child, providing care to their partner, and at the same time, they may need support themselves. More systematic research is needed on co-parents' needs for care during childbirth. Aim: To explore co-parents' experience of attending the birth of their baby in Norway. Method: The questions were developed based on the B3-survey version 3 for mothers. Altogether, 14 fathers were recruited through sampling on social media in autumn 2023. Think-aloud interviews were used to identify any issues with the questions. An adjusted and developed questionnaire will be used in this national online survey.
