Project summary

Breast cancer is the leading cause of deaths among women worldwide. Organized screening with mammography is considered an effective method for early detection and reducing from the disease by European and international health organizations, including WHO. A prerequisite for mammography screening to be effective is a high attendance rate. Several studies have shown a lower attendance rate in mammography screening among immigrants versus non-immigrants. Several countries have shed light on the low attendance rates in mammographic screening during the last decade. In order to increase breast screening uptake, interventions among immigrants and minority women are needed. Systematic reviews, summarizing literature on the interventions, carried out till now, have focused on particular countries and specific groups of immigrants, e.g Arab women, Asian American women, Hispanic women, Chinese American women, Somali immigrants and Muslim refugee and immigrant women. There is therefore a need for a review that considers all immigrant groups and minority women globally.
