Change processes in salutogenic talk-terapy groups for persons with mental health problems: The participants' experiences.

Project summary

Research reveals the significance of a salutogenic approach in treatment of different health problems including mental health problems (PHP). However no previous studies have systematically investigated change processes in therapy with a salutogenic focus in people with mental health problems (PHP). The main aim of the present study is thus increase to knowledge about change processes experienced of people who have participated in talk therapy groups with a salutogenic approach. The theoretical framework is the theory of salutogenesis. A hermeneutic- phenomenological method will be used. Between 15 and 30 participants from four talk- therapy groups will be interviewed. This study will shed light on what characterizes salutogenic processes and may thus contribute to promote better interventions in the recovery process in people with PHP The data collection will be done in May 2009 and December 2009, data analyses during fall 2010 and writing of articles during autumn 2010 and fall 2011.
