Project summary
The intention of the projecet is to conduct and publish a scientific study in palliative care on health care professionals`experiences in home based care. Focus group interviews primarly with nurses and general practioners are performed to understand how they work to ensure palliative care in municipal health and care services.
Furthermore, focus group interview with employees of funeral services will be used to describe their experiences with expected deaths in patients` homes.
The main purpose is to gain knowledge about how nurses and general practioners can accomplish competencies into the homes for patients with short life expectancy to fulfil their wishes to spend as much time as possible and die peacefully in their own home by getting professional palliation. One objective is to avoid the last, and often, unnecessary and traumatising hospitalization. Conditions relating to the coordination and organization of the health services are also important for success in palliative care in home based services.
