Ekphrasis in Nordic Textual Culture – Historical Perspectives

Project summary

The aim of the project is to study ekphrasis as a phenomenon in Nordic textual culture, focusing upon the relation between representations of the verbal and the visual on the basis of lyrical ekphrases from various periods of time (from the Old Norse period till modern digital era). In addition to the analysis of a selection of lyrical ekphrases, the project will also explore changes in theoretical approaches to ekphrasis, and discuss ekphrasis as a mode of cultural dialogue.
