Project summary

The aim of the project is to examine how a selection of picturebooks reappropriates and recreates literary and visual works of art. Some of the selected picturebooks repurpose previously published Norwegian poems by combining poems and illustration. Another group of books integrate visual art references with literary narratives. The study examines how the intermedial character of the picturebooks generate new ways of experiencing and interpreting the original works. Another issue is the question of how the picturebooks seem to address both children and adults. The project includes perspectives from intermedial theory, adaptation theory and theories of aesthetics.
