Publications from REPEAT: New insights into methods for mapping and evaluation.
There is a lot of activity in the REPEAT project, and several exciting articles have been published this autumn. Two new works have now been published!
Machine learning leads to better maps
In this recent article in SOIL, Julien Vollering and colleagues used machine learning to map peat depth in two Norwegian landscapes based on terrain features, demonstrating that existing maps can be improved to support regional planning.
How long does it take to restore blanket bogs?
Knut Rydgren and colleagues have studied how long it takes to restore Scottish blanket bogs that have been planted with forest back to their natural state.
The study shows that even if the bogs were damaged for a short time (15 years), it takes 50-285 years to recover. The study also emphasizes that close collaboration between researchers and practitioners is important for successful further restoration. Read the article here.
We will present each article in more detail after Christmas – stay tuned!
