Testing for tuberculosis and MRSA

Students from countries where tuberculosis is common are required to take a mandatoy tuberculosis test if they are going to stay in Norway for more than three months. This also goes for students who have been living for at least 3 months in countries with high occurence of tuberculosis during the last 3 years, and who intend to work with children, in care homes, or with people who are sick. This includes students who are going to do clinical placement in the health care sector or in schools and kindergartens.

Please check this list of countries with a high incidence of tuberculosis.

If you have been working, done placement or been admitted to a hospital or other health care institutions outside the Nordic countries you are obliged to be tested for MRSA.

You will not be allowed to start clinical placement if the test is positive so we advise you to take a test before you leave for Norway. You will also be tested in Norway before you start your placement.

Tuberculosis examination

The tuberculosis examination is free of charge for those who are required to take it. A public health nurse will talk to you about your situation. You will be assessed and referred for a chest X-ray and/or blood test.

Please visit this web site for information on tuberculosis examination in Bergen.

You may also contact your academic contact person or the international office for further information on where to be tested.
