Course content

This course builds on the candidate's artistic, didactic and general prior knowledge from previous education and the basis for admission in the selected profile subject or profile area and will provide the students with an introduction to the following main topics:

  • Artistic and didactic theory and research basis for creative
  • subjects and learning processes
  • Basic theory and discussions on creative subjects and learning processes
  • Practical-aesthetic experience and reflection basis for learning

 

Course description

Creative and practical-aesthetic learning processes are experience-based learning processes associated with active, physical, experience-oriented, relational, creative and exploratory strategies for holistic learning. The term "practical-aesthetic learning processes" reflects the programme's intention of an innovative and development-oriented focus on the learning processes that have been developed over a long period of time within the practical and aesthetic subjects. The interaction with knowledge of and influences from the surroundings is also a recurring theme. The course provides a general introduction to the theory and research-led basis for analysis and application of creative and practical-aesthetic learning processes in different practice contexts.

In addition, Course 1 will help prepare the candidate's choice of their master's work by introducing relevant issues, recent research and development work and relevant R&D projects at the educational institution.

 

The course MACREL L01 will focus on the following topics:

Aesthetic terms and aesthetic practice historically and now

Practical-aesthetic learning processes, technical terminology and knowledge concepts

Creativity theory and creativity development Improvisation in artistic and didactic practice

Learning, aesthetic expression and research

Dramaturgy and dramaturgical creative processes

Play and games as activities in practical-aesthetic learning arenas

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

  • has broad knowledge of aesthetic terms and aesthetic practice historically and now
  • has in-depth knowledge of different aspects of creative subjects and learning processes and of the relationship between such processes when it comes to different practical-aesthetic subjects and knowledge concepts
  • has broad knowledge of play and games as practical-aesthetic learning arenas and as a basis for artistic processes
  • is aware of and can use dramaturgical instruments in artistic and didactic creative processes
  • has knowledge about creativity and creativity development and can contribute to and reflect on creative processes
  • has in-depth knowledge of different aspects of scientific, artistic and aesthetic argumentation, reflection and theory development associated with creative and aesthetic learning processes

 

Skills

  • is able to analyse academic problems and issues based on artistic and didactic practice and creative subjects and learning processes
  • is able to design, analyse and assess innovative and creative learning processes in connection with aesthetic production and collaborate with others in such processes
  • is able to communicate extensive independent work and masters the forms of expressions associated with the subject area
  • masters and is able to evaluate improvisation, play and games as methods and means in creative, artistic and didactic practices
  • is able to discuss research and development issues that have been raised in relevant literature and which issues could be raised within the current area

  • is able to apply their knowledge and skills in new areas in the field in order to carry out advanced work assignments and projects

  • is able to communicate about academic issues, analyses and conclusions within the subject area both with specialists and with the general public

Teaching methods

Teaching and work forms

The master programme is organized through seminars and eLearning activities. The forms of teaching in this course are characterised by variation and include project organisation, teaching work, lectures, group discussions, seminars, group projects with supervision, different types of individual work with supervision, and use of online resources. Practical-aesthetic creative work is included in the course in the form of projects.

Compulsory learning activities

  • Attendance at seminars and group discussions at the place of study and via the Internet
  • Submission of practical-aesthetic work, reports and reflection notes in accordance with the defined plan
  • Participation in project work, presentations and supervision
