Contents and structure

An introduction to municipal planning according to the Planning and building Act, with emphasis on land use and zoning planning. The content includes:

  • Requirements for content and process for municipal land use planning and zoning plans
  • Risk and vulnerability analyses, with emphasis on municipal land use planning  

Learning Outcome

  • Key issues in both municipal land use planning and private zoning plans.
  • The Planning and building Act: the planning system, requirements of planning processes and content.
  • Requirements for the different planning levels. 

Entry requirements

No formal requirements. 

Recommended previous knowledge

No prior knowledge requirements. 

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises.

Compulsory learning activities

Project work in groups: Interpreting plans, simplified risk and vulnerability analysis for nature hazards for a part of a municipality, and preparing input to a municipal land use plan. 

Project work must be approved in order to pass the exam. 

Assessment

Written exam 4 hours. Grading A-F.
