ING3055 Bachelor Thesis - Electrical Engineering

Course description for academic year 2020/2021

Contents and structure

The thesis shall deal with issues connected to one or more engineering courses the student has previously studied and should involve a company or public agency in the region. The practical application of philosophy of science is also part of the course.

-General qualification:

The student:

  • Has knowledge of scientific integrity and understands ethical issues that are of relevance to the issue(s) of the bachelor thesis.
  • Knows the consequences for individuals, companies and society when it comes to the issue of the bachelor thesis and work related to this issue.
  • Knows how to plan and perform an independent task, formulate and analyse issues based on theoretical and empirical material and can carry out tasks in a sufficient way.
  • Can present the results of his/her work, verbally and written.

Entry requirements

Minimum 100 credits or more from the courses in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of study in the programme option by registration for the project (start semester), provides the opportunity to work on / deliver the Bachelor thesis in the following semester (final semester).

The credits in the prerequisite of the start semester will be counted by: October 1st for bachelor thesis that will be delivered in the spring semester, and May 1st for bachelor thesis that will be delivered in the autumn semester.

There will be granted an exemtion from the prerequisite as specified above, if all the following requirements are met:

  • At least 140 credits are achived in the programme option in the ordinary exam period in the start semester of the bachelor thesis (counted by February 1st/May 1st),
  • The sum of registered courses (including Bachelor thesis) in the final semester of the Bachelor thesis does not exceed 30 credits.

Students who will take advantage of the exemtion, must contact the student advisor within December 1st/August 1st.

Teaching methods

Project in group, seminars, tutorials.

Students are responsible to form groups of 2-3 members. The group must find a problem to write a thesis during the autumn semester. (number of members variable).

Bachelor thesis with oral presentation (adjusting oral exam), 100 %. Grade: A - E / passed; F / failed.

The bachelor thesis consists of a technical report, a poster and a product which can be, for example, a popular science article, a prototype or a multimedia product.

The oral presentation lasts for 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of oral examination.

The mark for the thesis is registered the day before the presentation (adjusting oral exam). At the oral exam this mark may be adjusted one step up or down. The final examination result will be released the day after the oral presentation/examination.

If several students deliver a bachelor thesis together (group thesis), all the students must attend the presentation/examination. They get a common mark.
