ELE250 Industrial Instrumentation

Course description for academic year 2020/2021

Contents and structure

The subject covers the most common components and measurements found in process monitoring and control.

Contents

  • Introduction to the content of measurement systems in industrial processes, including process control and data acquisition
  • P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) with the relations between measurements and process equipment such as pumps and valves
  • An overview of common processes and their corresponding measurements and instruments, such as pressure, temperature, flow and level (plus instrument functionality)
  • Explosion safety and reliability

Knowledge

The candidate has an overview of industrial control and supervision.

Skills

The candidate is able to participate in the selection of instrumentation solutions for an industrial process.

General qualifications

The candidate is able to participate in planning, commissioning and operation of an industrial instrumentation system

Recommended previous knowledge

The students are assumed to have prerequisites similar to the following subjects:

  • ELE141 Electric Basics 1
  • ELE142 Electric Basics 2

Lectures

Compulsory learning activities

One compulsory exercise. The coursework requirements are valid for three following semesters

Assessment

Written exam, 3 hours. Grades from A to F, where F is not passed.
