DAT259 Selected Topics in Software Engineering

Course description for academic year 2022/2023

Contents and structure

The course deals with current topics in software engineering or closely related topics. 

The curriculum must be at the same level as for advanced courses in general. It should not focus specifically and only on the topic of the master's thesis or be direct technical support or necessary literature for the thesis. 

The curriculum must be approved by the joint degree’s programme committee before the course is offered.

Knowledge 

  • has state-of-the-art knowledge on concepts, methods, and technology platforms in the topics covered by the special curriculum. 
  • can explain the development of scientific knowledge and engineering methods in the topics covered by the special curriculum 

Skills 

  • can plan and carry out independent applied research work or practical projects in the topics covered by the special curriculum. 
  • can review research work, and relate it to established knowledge in the topics covered by the special curriculum 
  • can follow scientific methods to review, evaluate or compare software tools and frameworks which are relevant for the topics covered by the special curriculum 

General competences 

  • can participate in research discussions, practical projects and research collaboration in the topics covered by the special curriculum 

Entry requirements

General admission criteria for the joint degree in software engineering. 

Teaching methods

Self-study under supervision, consisting of literature studies and possibly also project work. The literature is selected by the supervisor. The course has an expected workload of around 270 hours. 

Compulsory learning activities

Compulsory assignments with announced deadlines. Project work may be part of the final evaluation. 

Assessment

Oral exam with grades A-F, where F is fail.
