FØS8302 Strategic decisions with Power BI

Contents and structure

Power BI is a software used for Business Intelligence in the industry for analysis, reporting and visualization. Power BI allows users to collaborate to collect and analyze data and create interactive reports and visualizations. Employees who know Power BI well will be able to easily and quickly analyze large and diverse datasets and present it with powerful interactive visualization techniques. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basics of Power BI, with a focus on data analysis and visualization. The course builds on a solid understanding of Excel Power Tools when these skills are transferred to Power BI.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

The student:

• Understands how to collect and connect different data in Power BI
• Can structure and connect data into Power BI•
• Can perform analyzes in Power BI
• Can create interactive visualizations in Power BI

General competence

The student can:

• Configure Power BI desktop
• Knows the basic structure and possibilities of Power BI
• Analyze data in Power BI
• Create interactive visualizations and dashboards in Power BI

Entry requirements

Recommended previous knowledge

Good understanding of Excel and basic understanding of Excel Power tools such as Power-pivot and Power Query.

Teaching methods

Lectures, and group work with practical exercises

Compulsory learning activities

No compulsory work activity but students are encouraged to use the practice data sets

Assessment

Written individual or group assignment with up to three participants in each group. The assignment can be written in either english og norwegian.
