Why study Multimodial text in the English subject?
Multimodal texts, such as picture books, graphic novels, and other image-rich narratives are central to many children’s reading experiences. They are also becoming essential tools in today’s literacy classrooms. Because these texts communicate meaning differently than traditional print, they offer exciting possibilities for instruction as well as new challenges for analysis.
What will you learn in this course?
In this course, you will strengthen your visual literacy skills and learn how text and image work together to shape story, character, and theme. You will explore the unique literary qualities of multimodal texts and gain practical strategies for using them to engage diverse learners, support comprehension, and spark critical thinking.
You will investigate a wide range of multimodal resources and discover how they can enrich and expand students’ interpretive skills, and open doors to creative, meaningful learning.
Target audience
This course is designed with teachers teaching 5th to 10th grade in mind, and emphasizes classroom application.
