HAVSANS / OceanSense

HAVSANS (OceanSense) is an art-, exploration- and dissemination event for young children.

On a Friday in late September 2022, three groups of children from nearby kindergartens visited HVL Campus Bergen to participate in OceanSense. They were welcomed by an excited group of KINDknow researchers, student assistants and visual artist Håkon Hoffart.

The children were between 3-6 years old and accompanied by their kindergarten teachers. Together, children, researchers and artists explored various ocean related elements.

We played with water, seaweed, and crab shells. We watched a video, read ocean themes picture books, and listened to strange sounds. Led by artist Håkon Hoffart, the children drew pictures of life in the ocean and collaborated on creating a digital ocean landscapes where their animals and plants could live.

OceanSense was originally held in autumn 2022 as part of Forskningsdagene (Norwegian research festival). The event was created as part of the One Ocean Exploration project. Both OceanSense and One Ocean Exploration are initiated and run by KINDknow - Kindergarten Knowledge Centre for Systemic Research on Diversity and Sustainable Futures.
