Field of work
I completed my PhD at SOAS University of London in 2015. My background is in political sociology, and my research examines political violence, processes of state formation, counterinsurgencies, and the role of militias and para-statal armed groups in war-policing. I also research the intersections of gender, law, religion, marriage, and migration in Afghanistan and across diaspora contexts. In 2020, I joined the Department of Pedagogy, Religion and Social Studies at HVL, where I teach global history, politics and religion.
I have carried out research in Afghanistan, Pakistan, UK, Norway, and Turkey. My research has been funded, among others, by the Research Council of Norway, US Institute of Peace, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chr. Michelsen Institute, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and UNDP.
