Field of work

I am the leader of the strategic research programme on practical and aesthetic subjects and learning processes.

My research focuses on teaching, particularly improvisational and aesthetic learning processes and the use of digital media across school subjects. I work within teacher education and investigate how rehearsal-based activities on campus can help student teachers develop reflective and professional teaching repertoires. My research spans from studies of professional development in teacher education to sustainable digital practices in early childhood education.

We recently completed the project Building Sustainable Digital Practices in Kindergarten Literacy and Arts Programmes (DigiSus). From 2021 to 2026, I lead the Norwegian Research Council–funded research project Rehearsing Teaching Professionally (ReTPro) and the HK-dir–funded development project Rehearsing Teaching Professionally in Teacher Education (ReTProTE). In both projects, we explore how theory and practice, university college and the professional field, can be more closely connected, and how student teachers can rehearse being reflective, practicing teachers in the classroom, also while on campus

Research

I am the leader of and a researcher in the project ReTPro (Rehearsing Teaching Professionally), 2021–2026 (NFR/HK-dir). ReTPro is a new practice-oriented methodological approach (“rehearsal room methodology”) in teacher education. The project examines dialogic teaching and pedagogical drama in the subjects English, mathematics, pedagogy and Norwegian, and connects these approaches to the priority areas of critical thinking and democratic citizenship in the national curriculum reform Kunnskapsløftet 2020.

Other research interests include:

  • Partnership development
  • Teacher education and professional development
  • Teaching and instruction
  • The teacher’s role
  • Aesthetic learning processes
  • Digital practices in early childhood education
  • Improvisation
  • The curriculum renewal (Fagfornyinga)
