Only PhD candidates who are formally enrolled in a doctoral program at a Norwegian university or college can be admitted to NORBARN.

Doctoral candidates from abroad, as well as postdocs can be offered to participate in some of the activities offered by the research school. Any physical participation by non-members must be covered at your own expense,

Application deadlines

The Graduate School has three application deadlines a year. In 2025 the application deadlines are: 
February 3, June 6 and September 8. 

Admission

Apply for membership as a PhD candidate

Applicants must enclose an approved admission letter/confirmation that you are an active PhD candidate during the period you will be a research school student. The confirmation must include the start date and duration. PhD candidates must also attach a project description and confirmation that the supervisor supports the admission. 

The next application deadline is September 8, 2025.

Admission

 

PhD candidates will be admitted to the research school in the following priority order:

1. Candidates belonging to a PhD project accepted at one of the partner institutions (HVL, UiS, OsloMet, DMMH, USN, HINN, UiA) will be given priority. The topic must fall under the category of kindergarten-relevant research.
2. Other candidates. The research school has some open places for external applicants admitted to PhD programs at other institutions. The topic of the project must fall under the category of kindergarten-relevant research.

We accept applications for membership from both Ph.D. -candidates and postdoctoral staff. Applicants must attach an approved acceptance letter/confirmation of a PhD degree or confirmation of employment for a post-doc. The confirmation must contain the start date and duration. PhD candidates must also attach a project description and confirmation that the supervisor supports admission.

Postdocs can be offered to participate in some of the activities offered by the research school.

About the NORBARN membership

Your admission to the reserach school is for a period of 2 years. During this period, the graduate school will offer several interesting and topical courses, seminars and other activities. We encourage an active graduate school that helps to create relationships across the organization. As a research school member, it is therefore a requirement that you participate in several courses or activities at the research school during your membership. At least one main course of 5 ECTS must be completed during the period.
