Project summary
Master degrees in Art and Design in Teacher Education at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), The Catholic University of America (CUA), USA and Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brasil are newly established programs and lack international collaboration and mobility possibilities, and hence offer few possibilities for students and staff to gain international perspectives.
MADiT is based on a common research interest in Design Literacy, where the role of art and design education in relation to SDG goal 12 (ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns) is explored. Design thinking, material knowledge, competencies of repairing and recycling constitute a concrete entry to and end point for critical reflection around waste and consumption.
The main objectives of the MADiT project are to increase mobility, enhance the quality of education and strengthen the collaboration within Art and Design in Teacher Education. We will do this by expanding an ongoing international research collaboration between the three institutions. We will involve local partner schools as project partners and arenas for practicum placement.
During the project period we aim to develop the following project activities, which are relevant to the results framework:
1. Develop structures for long-term student mobility on Master level.
2. Develop three Collaborative Online Learning modules (COIL) as part of the master courses at HVL,
UFRGS, and CUA to enhance quality in education and internationalisation at home.
3. Implement structures for short term staff mobility to lecture and supervise students.
