Project summary
To articles will sum up the findings in the master-monografi from 2023 with this summary:
Background: The welfare state is threatened by demographic changes, high absenteeism from work, non-communicable diseases, and social health inequalities. Promoting wellbeing can help combat these challenges, and the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’ is an intervention focusing on five active areas for better wellbeing. These are; take notice, be active, keep learning, connect and give. There is currently limited knowledge about the experiences and insights of previous participants with the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’.Objective: The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate the experiences and insights of previous participants with the following research question: How did the participants experience taking part in the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’, and how do they perceive the course has influenced their daily lives thereafter? Methods: Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with former participants in the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’ at Healthy Life Centres in the fall of 2022. Systematic Text Condensation was employed for the data analysis. Results: The findings are presented in four result categories: “Take notice in the presence”, “A nudge to action”, “Interaction and sharing provide inspiration and encouragement to take action”, and “A gateway to physical activity together with others”.Conclusion: By participating in the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’, participants experienced improvement in many dimensions of wellbeing, including positive emotions, good functioning, and overall life satisfaction. Despite illness and prolonged discomfort, participants took steps to improve their wellbeing through inner motivation and external stimuli, nudges, provided by the course. Participants have observed that these changes continue to affect their daily lives six to twelve months later. This knowledge strengthens the evidence base for ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ and is significant in the course's revision efforts. A course concept like the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing course’ can be a valuable contribution to the national initiative for health promotion to increase the wellbeing in the population and reduce social inequalities in wellbeing.
