Project summary

High-quality education offers should be flexible and more accessible. A desire for increased flexibility has given digital technology attention, and an overall benefit from the use of digital technology is, among other things, increased access to higher education. Høgskulen på Vestlandet therefore established a parttime social educator with digital teaching once a week in addition to three short meetings on campus during the semester. The purpose of the study was to investigate how digital teaching affects the students' learning in flexible education options. The study has a qualitative design with practice-based research. Five focus group interviews have been conducted with students in their second year of study on the parttime course. The findings show that such part-time education gives the students more flexibility. Findings also show that it takes time to establish a good learning environment in such an education. The students experience that digital technology is not sufficiently utilized and that the teachers need more competence in digital tools.
