Project summary

Surprisingly little emphasis is put on letting healthcare students study and learn together, even though they are expected to be able to work well together after graduation. The aim of this project was to train teamwork in emergency situations with focus on scientific problem-solving, interdisciplinary communication, collaboration and leadership, to better protect patient safety. During the spring semester 2010, 52 interdisciplinary teams with a total of 262 students, participated in team training using simulation as a pedagogical method. To obtain a more complete picture of learning, skills development and transfer value to professional life, we have used multiple evaluation methods. Questionnaires related to attitudes to interdisciplinary learning and benefits of simulation learning; focus group interviews with three interdisciplinary teams and one with the facilitator team with a focus on learning and transfer value to professional life and observational studies with a focus on skills development by repeated training.
