Project summary
"DISTANT BUT YET CLOSE!" Experiences using satellitebased training of primary and preschool teachers in Norway. Abstract: A national educational reform of kindergarten and grade school teaching has taken effect from august 1997 and creates a need for training these teachers. This has led to a joint effort of three teacher's colleges to create a program based on satellite broadcasts beamed to small student groups meeting regularly. In this way it has been possible to teach college-level courses to groups living in wide area and totalling 200- 300 students. The subjects taught at the course include pedagogy, math, norwegian, nature studies, gymnasics and music (first 10 credits). The main idea is to provide group-based education and to study how one by use of distance education and can provide a framework that emphcises reflectin on the work and changes that is taking plase in the classroom as an result of new school reforms.
