Project summary

The purpose of this project is to study how the video game Rocksmith could be used as a pedagogical tool to advance guitar learning in higher education. Gameplay is seen as a tool to develop musical skills, but also as participation in a joint cultural practice. Data will be collected through a combination of interviews and online ethnography. Students at University of the arts Sibelius Academy, University of Helsinki, University of Turku and Bergen University College are informants. The project will include both guitar teachers and researchers from the four institutions. The results will be disseminated at international conferences and in an article in a relevant international journal. The project is on-going.
