Mathematics, Climate Change and Critical Citizenship

Climate Change is a global challenge. Mathematics plays a key role in both describing, communicate and predicting risk regarding climate change. In this project, my aim is to gain insight into how teaching this topic takes place in the mathematics classroom. How can mathematic education contribute to the students’ critical reflections on climate change?

To investigate this there will be a research partnership with lower secondary teachers with a particular interest for the issue of climate change in the mathematics classroom. Through conversations and observations, I seek to gain knowledge about how facilitation of mathematics teaching can take place, as well as how such education can contribute to critical citizenship.
