Contents and structure

Studying natural sciences such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and nutrician physiology the student will learn about the construction and function of the healthy body. Furthermore, the student will learn about microbes' influence on the human body and how one can protect oneself against pathogenic microbes.

Teaching may take place during the afternoon/evening.

Learning Outcome

Learning outcome in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry:

Knowledge:

The Student:

• Has broad knowledge of the structure and function of the healthy body.
• Has basic knowledge of biochemistry
• Can name anatomical structures and organs of the human body.
• Can describe the organs' location in relation to each other.
• Can describe the anatomical structures in the sense of:
• Macro Anatomy: Organs and organ systems
• Micro Anatomy: Cells and tissues
• Can describe the various organs and organ systems in the body
• Can explain the normal physiology in the various organs and organ systems.
• Can explain regulatory mechanisms and homeostasis in the healthy body.

Skills:

• Can convey basic knowledge of human anatomy and organ systems, as well as physiological and biochemical processes.

Learning outcome in Microbiology, Hygiene and Dietetics

Knowledge:

The Student:

• Has knowledge of microbes and their characteristics.
• Has knowledge of infections.
• Has knowledge of antimicrobial agents and resistance development.
• Possesses broad knowledge of infection preventative interventions.
• Has basic knowledge of nutrition physiology.

Skills:

The Student:

• Can convey basic knowledge of microbiology, hygiene and nutrition physiology.
• Uses infection preventative interventions and complies with hygienic principles.

Joint General Competence:

The Student:

• Is capable of imparting central subject matter.
• Acknowledges the fact that knowledge on the subject is important to the exercise of professionally justifiable nursing.

Teaching methods

Focus on student active learning methods. The following working methods may be used:  compulsory work/assignment, individual and group tutorials, self-tuition, reflection, group work, demonstrations, skills training, simulations, oral presentation, digital learning tools, classmate response, self-evaluation, seminars, research and evidence based teaching, lectures.

Compulsory learning activities

The course has compulsory work. One of the work requirements is 90% presence on parts of the course. Further clarification is evident from the semester plan.

If there are students who will do a new ordinary / new examination with a new class, it must be assessed by the course coordinator / head of studies if previously completed coursework requirements still apply for them.

Assessment

Graded marks. Writen exam, part 1 (national exam) 4 hours, part 2 (local exam) 2 hours.
