ING2052 Electrical Engineering

Course description for academic year 2018/2019

Contents and structure

Direct and alternating current circuits.Impedance. Complex numbers and phasor diagram. Circuit analysis techniques of different electronic circuits ( resistive, RC, RL, RLC). Transfer functions, frequency response, Bode plot, resonance, analog filters. Introduction in amplifier theory.

The course will mainly be tauht in Norwegian and the assessment (examination questions, portfolio assigments and papers) will be in Norwegian. Lectures and guidance are partly in English.

Learning Outcome

-Knowledge:

The student

  • Can analyse simple electronic circuits.
  • Can explain characteristics of the main electronic components and time-dependent electrical phenomenon.

-Skills:

The student

  • Can solve practical and theoretical problems in electronic circuits.
  • Can perform calculations on electronic circuits.
  • Can perform calculations on some analog filters.
  • Knows the basic specifications and characteristics for small signal amplifier.

-General qualifications:

  • The student has basic knowledge of assembling simple electronic circuits.
  • The student can use simulation tools.

Entry requirements

Recommended previous knowledge

Technical Science 1 and Technical Science 2.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory exercises ( or simulation lab) and calculation workshop.

Compulsory learning activities

1) Obligatory calculations - 75 % must be approved.

2) Laboratory tasks with report - 100 % must be approved.

Assessment

Written exam, 5 hours.

Grade:  A - E / F (failed).
