EVØ-ØKB4013 Leadership and change in organizations
Course description for academic year 2019/2020
Contents and structure
The course discusses central themes related to leading change in organizations, particularly addressing the leadership of organizational change processes. The course is divided into 4 modules:
Module 1 introduces leadership and change in organizations as an academic subject .
Module 2 addresses changes in society and challenges regarding changes in organizations, theories and models for understanding challenges and problems associated with change in organizations, leadership and leadership challenges, as well as change-oriented leadership challenges as seen from a strategic point of view.
Module 3 addresses the leadership of organizational change and implementation processes, including challenges related to transformations from to , from idea to collective actions and activities, how to break away from the past, how organizational change processes might be moved forward and momentum infused, and middle mangers as actors during organizational change processes
Module 4 addresses leadership in organizations from a more general perspective, focusing particularly on leadership and change as an implementation challenge.

- Challenges related to transforming theoretical knowledge to reflective practical knowledge
- Actors during organizational change processs, and the role of middle -/first-line manager.
- Leadership and leadership challenges related to the implementation of changes in organizations.
Skills:
After completing the course the student is capable of applying the theoretical knowledge acquired within practical organizational contexts, and:
- Can apply acquired theoretical knowledge on practical problems and challenges related to the leadership of changes in organizations.
- Can place change strategies and change process in a holistic organizational perspective.
- Can contribute to implement changes within practical organizational contexts in reflective ways.
- Can act professionally and analytically to challenges met as a leader or advisor during change processes within organizational contexts.
General Qualifications:
After completing the course the student is capable of addressing change-oriented leadership as a leadership challenge in organizations in a thoughtful and analytical manner, by acting on basis of a conscious and analytical attitude towards implementing changes within organizational contexts. Further, the student is capable of exercising ethical behavior as a leader or as an advisor during the processes.
Entry requirements
180 ECTS credits, and at least two years of work experience.
Teaching methods
Lectures, teamwork, as well as discussions in the classroom.

Assessment
Written examination, 5 hours. Grading scale A-F
