Course description for academic year 2019/2020

Contents and structure

The course emphasises the creation of a good connection between the student's own musical and artistic development and didactic competence in planning, implementation and reflection about music education. The course shall give students the competency to develop collaboration and dissemination projects at the University College and in the community. The students' musical resources and teaching provided at the University College form the basis for work in the course. Assignments given in the course draw links between disciplines such as music history, principal instrument and arranging/composing.

  • Listening and listening methods
  • Didactic reflection and analysis
  • Music history
  • Arranging/composing
  • Independent project in group and individual, with focus on music performance

Knowledge

The candidate has:

  • Knowledge about individual adaptations and differentiation in music-making in a school context
  • Basic knowledge about music from various traditions, genres and periods of music history.
  • Insight into various practices relevant to classroom activities and community music activities

 

Skills:

The candidate is able to:

  • Perform music in a confident and independent way, with high quality communication to an ensemble and an audience
  • Use didactic tools in a relevant manner in practice
  • Score, adapt and create music for various instruments and ensembles
  • Listen actively and reflectively to a representative selection of music from different genres and historical periods
  • Facilitate varied music activities for different target groups

 

General competence:

The candidate:

  • Is able to show the disciplinary connections between creative activities and performing music in encounters with different cultures and fields of practice
  • Can plan, implement and assess varied music activities
  • Can activate and stimulate the ability of others to create, experience and express music
  • Is able to analyse and evaluate their own musical and artistic learning
  • Is able to reflect on the relationship between music and methods inside and outside of the subject
