BFY331A Clinical placement for international physiotherapy students at a Norwegian hospital

Contents and structure

This module is part of the exchange program and collaboration between Duke University and Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

Students from Duke University take part in a 9-week clinical placement together with Norwegian students at Haukeland University Hospital. Authorized physiotherapist employed by the hospital will supervise the students.

• has knowledge about the Norwegian Health care system when it comes to specialized health care
• can justify rationale for assessment of patients within specialized health care
• can justify rationale for choice of physiotherapy treatment of patients within specialized health care setting
• can justify rationale for multi professional collaboration within specialized health care

• can select and accurately apply appropriate assessment techniques/tools when assessing patients
• demonstrate awareness of patients needs
• can find and apply appropriate information sources and evidence
• can communicate effectively with patients, family/carer, and physiotherapy colleagues in a sensitive and empathic manner
• can apply effective handling techniques
• can maintain a safe environment
• demonstrate appropriate professional behavior and attitude

• can respects the rights, dignity and individuality of the patients and others
• adhere to local policy: dresses professionally, follows rules for hygiene, is punctual for clinical appointments

Incoming exchange students from partner institution, Duke University.

To succsessfully pass the clinical placement the student must have reached th learning goals for the period and this will be judged after å final evaluation at the end of the placement.
