Course description for academic year 2022/2023

Contents and structure

The main focus is the system level and the profession of the social educator. In this practice, student will apply the knowledge and skills of the entire program and can benefit both internship and specific users for good. Students' activities in practice should include both cooperation with users, environment and activity work, and work at the system level , with a particular look at the significance constraints on the system level for users and service practitioners maneuver. In consultation with the supervisor and tutor, students will design focus and learning objectives for the internship. During practice, each student will also initiate and participate in inter- professional collaboration related to the complex needs of a patient or user. Practice placement is in spring. Admission is limited.

Contents

System and development practice is 10 weeks. Through one practice plans, students will see how they justify, plan and assess their practices in specific focus and goals. A counseling courses with accompanying curriculum is integrated into practice program, and students will gain experience in the practical training of technical guidance and supervision of employees. When it comes to system level, they choose two main focus from the following: planning and organizational development of cooperation between different departments and agencies, project and change in the organization of services, professional development and personal environments , the provision of separate subject, the development of cooperation with users / guardian , evaluation (of the organization's activities or services) or technical and administrative management, or inter- professional collaboration. Compulsory Requirement

Practice manual describes which written papers the student has to produce and which practical skills the student has to apply and achive during the placement. The quality of the written work and the students practical skills are both important part of the assessment for passing practice.

Practice placement, 10 weeks

Student`s work will continuously be evaluated by the tutor. The facilitator from the school and the tutor will conduct at least one meeting with the student where the primary focus is the assessment of student performance and progress. It is mandatory presence both in practice and in all meetings related to practice that the student cannot have more absences than 10% for any reason. If there is reasonable doubt about the practice will be passed, the student will receive written notification in accordance with § 5 of the Department's regulations on academic content and assessment schemes for social educator. It means that the message must be the student no later than three weeks before completed internship. See also the procedure for handling doubt in practice manual.

A student who has completed the course should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge The student...

  • can describe his/her practice in ways that demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of own professional role and training's challenges and responsibilities in the welfare system
  • is familiar with the basic features and the importance of inter- professional learning and interaction skills
  • has knowledge of the process of professional supervision

Skills The student...

  • can analyze specific issues affecting patients and users in ways that connect the user level , environmental and labor activity level, and system level
  • can contribute to change and development of the organization and duties of the internship from such analyzes
  • can initiate and participate in inter- professional collaboration that includes patients or users equal partner at least once during the internship Exercise supervision and stimulate professional reflection together with other service providers

General competence The student...

  • can act as user-oriented and reflective professionals in partnership with people with physical, psychological and/or social disabilities
  • can identify and recognize collaborative professions skills assessment and grounds, and convey their expertise and assessment basis to meet with them

Teaching methods

Organization and learning

Practice includes participation in practice preparation, writing and reflection work, active participation in the training site activities, examination of the deposited counseling with the tutor, independent action and testing in accordance with your own focus and goal in practice schedules, academic presentations and professional supervision of staff at the practice site, and participation and reflection work on collections during the placement period. Grading system

Rating practical placement is assessed as passed/failed based on assessment criteria described in the practical placement manual.

If the student fail the placement, the student get a new placement next scheduled termin.
