Contents and structure

The course deals with application of Power Electronics in topics:

  • Power semiconductors, power diodes, power transistors, power MOSFETs, thyristors, gate turn-off thyristors, insulated gate bipolar transistors, WBG components, etc.
  • Snubbere
  • Driver circuits
  • Cooling system
  • Applications of power converters

Learning Outcome


After completing the course, the candidate should:

  • master the semiconductor theory for power semiconductors.
  • understand the structure of power electronic components, snubs, driver circuits.
  • Know applications of power electronic converters.


After completing the course, the candidate should be able to design, construct and optimize the power electronic converters.

General competence:

The candidate should have expertise in the development of power electronic converters.

Entry requirements


Recommended previous knowledge

ELE 119 Power Electronics or similar course

Teaching methods

Lectures, homework and self-study.

Compulsory learning activities

1 homework must be approved for taking the exam.


Oral exam, 30 minutes for each candidate. Grading scale is A-F where F is fail.
