Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

KRLE 2 (30 credits) is divided into two subjects, each of which amounts to 15 credits. In KRLE 2, subject 1, consists of a research article which amounts to 7.5 credits. Together, the two subjects (301 and 401) include deepening in the four main areas of the study subject: subject didactics, knowledge of Christianity, knowledge of religion and outlook on life, ethics and philosophy.

In KRLE 2, subject 1, emphasis is placed on thorough knowledge of sacred texts in connection with Islam and Christianity. Knowledge and reflection on central philosophical and ethical issues related to minority issues and secularization, as well as criticism of religion, are central to the subject. The students will also work on skills and critical reflection related to aesthetic working methods and digital tools adapted to the different age levels.

The course plan follows the progression in practice and in the cross-disciplinary themes as shown by the study program plan and the course plan for practice for the year in question.

Upon completion of the course, the student must have the following total learning outcome:

Knowledge

The student has

  • thorough knowledge of a selection of texts and current perspectives related to Islam
  • thorough knowledge of a selection of texts and current perspectives associated with Christianity
  • knowledge of diversity within Christianity and Islam globally and locally
  • knowledge of key issues related to diversity and secularisation
  • knowledge of external and internal criticism of religion regarding attitudes to gender and sexuality within Christianity and Islam
  • knowledge of aesthetic forms of work in the subject adapted to different age levels

Skills

The student can

  • give an account of sacred texts in Christianity and Islam and source criticism
  • account for different practices and intra-religious diversity within Christianity and Islam
  • prepare and critically assess teaching plans that involve aesthetic working methods and digital tools
  • discuss philosophical and ethical issues related to modernity

General competence

The student

  • has thorough knowledge of Muslim and Christian diversity globally and nationally with competence to apply this knowledge in teaching and professional development.
  • has thorough knowledge of aesthetic working methods and digital tools and can use these in teaching and professional development at various levels
  • can integrate basic skills in teaching and professional development within the subject

Teaching methods

Teaching is organized with lectures, group work and student activities. Student activity in the form of individual tasks and work in groups. Emphasis is placed on forms of work that involve the use of ICT. The student is responsible for his own learning. Work with the work requirements is partly integrated into the teaching.

Compulsory learning activities

  • Group work related to Christianity or Islam. The assignment consists of a written and an oral part. The written part must be linked to source texts and specialist literature. The oral part must be linked to aesthetic working methods. Professional digital competence in a societal perspective is part of this. Detailed guidelines will be given at the start of the study.
  • Attendance is required for at least 80% of the student-active teaching in the subject. More detailed guidelines will be given at the start of the semester.

The work requirements must be completed by the set deadlines and approved before you can sit for the exam.

Assessment

Home exam, 3 days.

Grade scale A to F, where F corresponds to failed.
