ELE130 Network Security

Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

The course covers classic cryptography introduction, symmetric and asymmetric encryption, message confidentiality and authentications; network security applications: key distribution and management; user authentication; digital signature; network access control; transport-level security; IP security; wireless network security; malicious software.

  • The candidate can assess security threats/attacks in a given computer network.

  • The candidate is able to assess security threats in a given computer network
  • The candidate can use various security methodologies to protect a network from threats/attacks.

General competence:

  • The candidate understands information security from theories, can correctly analyze security issues and have problem-solving skills within this field.

Entry requirements

None

Recommended previous knowledge

Basic network knowledge, or ELE 118 Networking Technology, or equivalent courses.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory, self-study.

Compulsory learning activities

6 approved laboratory assignments and a presentation.

Assessment

4 hours written exam will be held on the digital exam system.

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
