Contents and structure

Analytical and descriptive statistics. Statistical software is a necessary aid.

Learning Outcome

Skills:

The student must

know the most basic concepts within the subject of statistics

explain probability calculus and combinatorics

explain the use of descriptive statistics

could account for hypothesis testing and confidence intervals

Skills:

The student can

carry out statistical tests using tables

carry out statistical tests using SPSS

use both parametric and non-parametric methods to analyze quantitative data material

perform simple probability calculus

interpret computer printouts in the subject of statistics

carry out data collection and analyze data

General competence:

The student

Understands parametric and non-parametric statistics

understands the principle of statistical tests

can read scientific articles where statistics are used as a method

understands the strengths and weaknesses of statistical analyses

Teaching methods

Lectures, assignments, seminars and computer exercises.

Compulsory learning activities

Up to two written work requirements to be solved individually or in a group.

Assessment

Written exam, 4 hours. Letter grade.
