ØAL150 Internship Logistics

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

I

The internship offers a unique opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Students undertake this individually in collaboration with a business or organization - whether in the private, public, or voluntary sector. It is the student's responsibility to secure an internship placement.

During the internship, students will work on tasks that are either part of the daily operations of the business, or they may be responsible for a specific assignment or subproject within the logistics field. The framework and content of the collaboration are set by the employer and must be approved by HVL. Students work independently but receive guidance from both the employer and an academic advisor from the college.

At the end of the semester, students must submit a written internship report. This report is a joint property of the student, the employer, and HVL. It is important to note that advisors or others cannot demand that the report be published - whether through libraries, the internet, or other channels - in printed or electronic format, without the consent of both the student and the employer.

Teaching methods

The core activity of the course is the practical work undertaken with the employer. The internship period is based on an agreement between the student and the company/organization regarding compulsory attendance on agreed-upon days. The student is required to work a total of 240 hours, or 32 days, in the internship. Typically, this is spread over two days a week throughout the semester, but the student and the company are free to agree on different schedules if preferred.

Before the start of the internship period, the mandate and framework for the collaboration must be clearly defined by the employer and approved by HVL.

In addition to the time spent at the company, the student is expected to spend a minimum of 160 hours working individually on a practice report and reflection note.

It is important to note that the student will not receive any payment for the work performed during the internship period.

Compulsory learning activities

Own process for approving internships with letter of application, CV and contract with client according to given guidelines.

Assessment

Written practical assignments (including reflection notes) are graded separately before the corrective oral exam. Both the written and oral part must be passed to pass the course. Censorship is carried out by two sensors, one of which is external.

The submission deadline for the practical assignment is published on Studentweb and via the digital examination system, Wiseflow.

The grade on the practical assignment is recorded in Wiseflow by the examiners and communicated to the student no later than 24 hours before the oral exam.

The final grade on the practical assignment is identical to the grade that appears in the exam report for "adjusting oral" and is also recorded by the examiners in Wiseflow. The final grade is set after the oral exam.

The time and place for the oral exam is stated in Canvas (only for students in the 3rd year with specialization in logistics + year unit in logistics)

The grade on the practical assignment can be adjusted up or down by one grade after the oral exam. Grade scale A-F, where F corresponds to fail.

Failed practical assignment

Students who have failed the practical assignment can submit a new and improved version during the coming semester. Enhanced version can only be delivered once.
