Course description for academic year 2026/2027
Contents and structure
This course offers an introduction to business and society from a global perspective. This course addresses the challenges of doing business around the world and places business in the context of globalization ¿social, political, religious, economic, geographical, and environmental. Topics include the global mindset, cultural risks, environmental concerns, trade and investment in estblished and newly emerging economies, the ways multi-national organizations contribute to the social and political environment of business, cross-cultural worldviews of what constitutes an economy, and introduction to global and economic institutions (e.g., the IMF, the World Bank, and United Nations).
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
The student:
- knows important political and economic institutions and what they do in an international context
- knows Norway's most important trading partners has knowledge of global and national business partners in industry and society and especially countries / entities designated as key and strategic partners
Skills:
The student:
- can identify and get acquainted with framework conditions, opportunities and limitations that are important premises for business and trade with other countries
- can update their knowledge of partner countries and economic alliances and present this in an economic context
General competence:
The student:
- has developed a global mindset and understanding of global perspectives on business activities
- has developed understanding of different perspectives and practices in several aspects related to economic and administrative activities
Entry requirements
The student must have participated in a short-term (1 - 4 weeks) mobility program at one of HVL's partners during his/her study at HVL or the students has to be enrolled in an exchange programme at one of HVLs partner institutions in the assessment semester.
Recommended previous knowledge
Completed and passed a minimum of 45 credits in courses in bachelor in business administration
