Field of work
I am Professor Per Bjørnar Grande at the Faculty of Education, Arts and Sports, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Department of Pedagogy, Religion and Social Studies. My primary fields of research are philosophy of religion, anthropology of religion, and literary analysis.
In 2001, I received the Scandinavian-American Foundation scholarship, which enabled me to study mimetic theory under René Girard at Stanford University. Since then, I have devoted my scholarship to the intersection of religion, culture, and literature, with a particular emphasis on the role of desire and imitation in human life.
I am the author of nine books, including Sentrale livssyn (Gyldendal Akademisk, 2004), Kristendommen: En innføring (Gyldendal Akademisk, 2005), Mimesis and Desire (Lambert Academic Publishing, 2009), Desire: Flaubert, Proust, Fitzgerald, Miller, Lana Del Rey (Michigan State University Press, 2020), and most recently Vold i kulturen (Fagbokforlaget, 2025). In addition, I have published 57 peer-reviewed articles in both Norwegian and international journals, among them Contagion: Journal of Violence, Mimesis, and Culture and Anthropoetics: Journal of Generative Anthropology.
Beyond scholarly publishing, I have contributed extensively to public debate and cultural discourse, with 95 chronicles and reviews on topics ranging from religion and philosophy to art and literature. I am also the author of a novel and a collection of poetry. According to Academia.edu, with its 52 million readers, my work ranks among the top 4% most read on the platform.
I would be delighted to contribute to your journal and to engage with your readership. Please feel free to contact me should you require any additional information or materials.
